Do you like kimbap but often find it time-consuming and difficult to get the perfect roll? If so, try out this method of folding kimbap! You will be able to make this wrap in seconds while looking neat and without compromising on the texture or taste of kimbap. Although it does not look like the traditional kimbap, this is a perfect size for a single serving for a quick lunch or to bring on a picnic.

What is Kimbap?

Kimbap is a Korean dish made from cooked rice and ingredients such as vegetables, fish and meats that are rolled in dried sheets of seaweed and sliced in bite-sized pieces. The ingredients used in this recipe are egg, tuna, veggies, and pickled radish (daikon), however, this can be customized to your liking.

You can easily make this a healthy vegetarian kimbap or a protein dense kimbap depending on the filing. One thing you don't want to skip out on is the sesame oil and a dash of salt on the rice as it adds the signature nutty flavor for kimbap. Sesame oil will also help prevent the rice from drying out so it is perfect to make ahead of time that you can reach for lunch or dinner.

The method of folding the nori sheet is inspired by a viral TikTok tortilla wrap hack. But instead of a tortilla, we are using nori sheets. The tip to getting the perfect wrap is the order you place your ingredients. Start off by cutting the nori half way down the center.

With the cut side facing you, the bottom left and top left squares will be the ingredients that end up in the center after you wrap. Placing softer ingredients such as vegetables in the middle and harder ingredients like rice on the outside will help keep its shape. It is a fun and easy process that even kids could enjoy!
